French AI startup Mistral is reportedly in advanced discussions with venture capital firms and Abu Dhabi-based MGX to secure a $1 billion funding round, potentially valuing the company at $10 billion. This follows a previous €600 million Series B that valued Mistral at €5.8 billion.
Mistral, creator of Europe’s first AI reasoning model launched in June 2025, aims to compete with top-tier U.S. and Chinese AI firms by emphasizing logical, context-aware models. The new capital would support commercialization of its flagship chatbot Le Chat, further LLM development, and expansion of enterprise partnerships.
Backed by heavyweight investors such as Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, and Lightspeed Venture Partners, Mistral stands out as a rising European powerhouse in foundational AI. If the round materializes, it would be one of the region’s largest startup fundraises and a strong signal that Europe can nurture global-scale AI innovators.
