Opera, the software company known for its innovative web browsers, has unveiled a new feature called Browser Connector that enhances the integration of artificial intelligence into browsing experiences. Announced on April 16, 2026, this feature is available in Opera One and Opera GX, allowing users to seamlessly incorporate AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude into their browsing sessions. This integration is made possible through the MCP (Multi-Contextual Protocol), which gives AI tools real-time access to the user’s open tabs and active content.

Previously, users had to manually provide context to external AI services, a process that could be cumbersome and inefficient. With Browser Connector, this obstacle is removed as AI can now directly access and interpret the content of open web pages, take screenshots, and analyze images or graphs. This is particularly beneficial for users engaged in tasks such as research, where multiple tabs and detailed content are involved.

The introduction of Browser Connector aligns with Opera’s commitment to offering users more choices and flexibility, avoiding the limitations of being tied to a single company’s ecosystem. Mohamed Salah, Senior Director of Product at Opera, emphasized that this feature allows users to combine the best tools according to their specific needs, reinforcing Opera’s open AI strategy.

Opera has been proactive in integrating AI into its platforms, having initially incorporated ChatGPT in early 2023 and subsequently developing its own multi-LLM AI. The Browser Connector simplifies the advanced MCP technology that was first seen in Opera Neon, making it more accessible in their mainstream browsers, Opera One and Opera GX.

The Browser Connector is currently available for free in the Early Bird mode of Opera One and Opera GX, which is the browsers’ testing environment. Users interested in utilizing this feature can enable it by navigating to the Settings menu, searching for “AI Services,” and installing the Browser Connector. After installation, they can link ChatGPT or Claude to the feature.

Opera, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Oslo, Norway, is publicly traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol OPRA. The company continues to focus on delivering a superior browsing experience across various devices, with millions of users relying on its unique browser features on both mobile and desktop platforms.
