Opera GX, the gaming browser developed by the Norwegian company Opera, has officially launched on the Linux platform. This release brings the browser’s renowned performance controls, gaming integrations, and extensive customization options to Linux users, who have long requested support for their operating system.
The demand for a Linux version of Opera GX has surged, with gamers and developers actively seeking a browser that caters to their needs within public forums and community discussions. The introduction of Opera GX on Linux meets this demand, offering a gaming browser that aligns with the platform’s emphasis on privacy while delivering the high performance expected by modern gamers.
Maciej Kocemba, Product Director for Opera GX, stated, “PC gaming has long been associated with a single dominant platform, but that’s changing. Bringing GX to Linux users – who are renowned for the control they like to exert over their tools – means gamers and developers can manage browser resources, customize their setup, and keep their system performing exactly the way they want.”
With this new release, Linux users can take advantage of several features that enhance their gaming experience:
Opera’s commitment to user control and privacy is evident in this version of Opera GX, which does not collect location data, browsing history, page content, or search queries. It adheres to the same privacy standards present in other Opera browsers and complies with European privacy regulations.
Opera GX on Linux supports various distributions, including Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE. Users can install the browser using .deb and .rpm packages, with Flatpak support currently in development. Weekly updates will be rolled out based on community feedback shared through Discord and forums.
Since its launch in 2019, Opera GX has grown significantly, amassing over 34 million users worldwide. Linux users have been eagerly awaiting this release, which is now available for download at Opera’s official website.
